2008 Northwest 4-H Youth Leadership Forum
& Day Camp Training

Monday, August 11, 8:30 a.m. - 3:45 p.m.

Gross Memorial Coliseum and Cunningham Hall, FHSU, Hays, KS.

 

Purpose:

Northwest Kansas 4-H announces the 2008 2nd Annual Northwest Kansas 4-H Youth Leadership Forum and Day Camp Training, August 11, Fort Hays State University, Hays, KS.  This annual one-day training is for all 4-H members, aged 12 and up, 4-H leaders, and Extension staff.   There is a registration cost of $10 with the balance of the fee covered by the Dane Hansen Foundation Day Camp grant.  Participants must register by July 28, 2008 preferably electronically on the Kansas 4-H registration system, although hard copy registration is still allowed.  Registration covers lunch, breaks, T-shirt, educational workshops, speakers, and entrance to the Smoky Hill Education Service Center Ropes Course on the FHSU campus.   

Cost:

Registration is $10.00 per participant. Make check payable to KSU.  Return fee and required forms to Deryl Waldren at the Colby address below. Registration is required for an accurate meal count, T-shirt and workshop selection.

Electronic registration through the Kansas 4-H web site is highly encouraged for an accurate meal count, T-shirt and workshop selections. Participants may also register by hard copy and return the required registration form, Kansas 4-H Participation form and Smoky Hill Education Service Center liability release form to: Deryl Waldren, Northwest Area Extension Office P. O. Box 786, Colby, KS 67701. Call 785-462-6281 or e-mail dwaldren@ksu.edu. For those with no computer connections, contact Deryl Waldren by July 28, 2008, for a hard copy of the forms.
On-line registration ends July 28, 2008. Late registration will be offered from July 29-31, 2008.

8:30 a.m. – Registration, Gross Memorial Coliseum, Gate 2, Fort Hays State University, Hays
8:45-12:15 p.m. – Ropes Course, Smoky Hill Education Center, Fort Hays State University
12:15 a.m. – Outdoor Cookery Lunch with Nadine Sigle, Post Rock District Extension Agent, Osborne, Gross Memorial Coliseum & Cunningham Hall, Fort Hays State University
1:15 p.m. - Welcome – Deryl Waldren, Extension 4-H Specialist, Colby, KS
1:20 p.m. – Workshop 1 – Cunningham Hall
* Putting the Zip Back in Your Club Meeting – Kansas 4-H Youth Council Members
* Games and Challenge Initiatives with the Big Black Bag – Deryl Waldren, Extension 4-H Specialist, Colby, KS
* Day Camp Nuts and Bolts: Committee, Promotions, Planning and Risk Management – Robyn Deines, District 4-H Agent and Walnut Creek District 4-H Team
2:20 p.m. – Refreshment Break – Snack Mix, fruit slushie cups, water, and iced tea
2:35 p.m. – Workshop 2 – Cunningham Hall    
* Improve Your Interviewing Skills – Lenae Lang, Hays
* CHARACTERCOUNTS! – Kansas 4-H Youth Council Members
* Day Camp Activities, Theme Planning, High level and hands-on – Robyn Deines, District 4-H Agent and Walnut Creek District 4-H Team
3:35 p.m. – Evaluation and clean up
3:45 p.m. – Program Ends

Attire:

The workshop will be held at the Gross Memorial Coliseum and Cunningham Hall, FHSU, Hays, KS, so dress appropriately. Remember, the Kansas 4-H Dress Code will be in place. Wear comfortable clothes, and closed-toed shoes.  No flip-flops, sandals or Crocs allowed. Wear sunscreen.  Read the participant information.

Etiquette:

Participants will be representing themselves, Kansas 4-H, and all youth in general. We expect they will model the six pillars of CHARACTERCOUNTS! of trustworthiness, responsibility, respect, fairness, caring and citizenship.
